Signs of Spring
It is Spring Break here and it looks like the Spring Weather is cooperating with us. There are signs of Spring all over
The chalk has come out! = Happy kids even the 13 year old!
.
Bikes are for riding and puddles for hopping. Jackets who needs those? Notice the paint job the kids did on the family sign. They had fun with that one.
St. Patrick’s day smile. Love the freckles
Meeting Dad at the park after work for a little play time.
Enjoying the longer days
Using the secher au vent for the clothes.
Did I mention the weather 70 to 80 degrees?

A Villain, A Lover and a Statue
Sounds like the introduction to a bad joke, but I am talking about Don Giovanni – the story of Don Juan.
the scary statue
I recently went to a performance of Tulsa Opera’s production of Don Giovanni. Lets say I am now a fan of Opera. I have been wanting to go just to experience Opera for many years, probably since I saw Pretty Woman way back when.
Don Giovanni is a timeless story, of love, betrayal. lust. murder and paying for your sins. Don Juan does a lot of running around chasing after one woman after another. In the process he kills a man and his faithful servant switches places with him. Meanwhile others plot to avenge the death and murder Don Juan, even though he is a good friend of theirs. In the end a statue is his dimise. Gee sounds like an episode of Desperate Housewives or Jersey Shore. Mozart and Moliere considered the story a comedy, but it comes with a moral. The Villain gets it in the end
I recently attended a performance of Tulsa Opera’s production of Don Giovanni with my best girl (shh! don’t tell her sister).
We enjoyed dressing up.
Check out her shoes. (before) and after.
Being a multilingual person, I really enjoyed reading the subtitles along with the music and finding out that I really do know more Italian than I thought I did. Opera you not only have a new fan in me, you have a new fan in my 12 year old daughter. (She announced that she will be taking her boyfriend to the opera. – but first she has to get one.)
There are still performances left, so don’t miss out. If you have never been don’t worry, subtitles run along top the stage and dress is not overly formal or stuffy. You can dress up as much as you want to or simply wear your nice clothes. You may even see cowboy boots there, just make sure you wear your nice ones and not your barn boots. (that is for all my rancher friends.)

Losing Track of Time
With all the snow days going on here, we are currently on day six. I have lost track of what day of the week it is
. Don’t get me wrong, this can be a good thing. I have enjoyed the lack of evening activities for the family, no practices to go to, no meetings to go to. That adds up to more family time. We have been cooking
Gingerbread Cake
While the weather rages, kids are coloring; even the big kids, playing Wii, even a board game tournament. Not only have we had record breaking snow we have had record breaking low temperatures, morning lows below zero. For a part of the country that relies on the help of Mother Nature to help remove the snow the record breaking lows have meant that the snow has stayed on the ground much longer than the normal two to three days. In fact, we still had significant snow on the ground and the roads in neighborhoods before today’s snow began. Hopefully next week we will get back to normal routines, but for now I am enjoying having everyone home and this slower paced life. Come to think of it, do I want those normal routines, with kids having practice till 7pm 3-4 nights a week, scouts and church? I am loving my nights home with the family.

Road Rage
After having been couped up in the house for most of a week, due to Snowmargedon I got out and ran some errands. On my way home I became the target of road rage. Grandpa in his mini van decided that I was not driving fast enough for him. I was going a few miles over the speed limit. He came up behind me in non rush hour traffic and started driving aggressively. Lights flashing, fingers flying, all but the honking of the horn. Let it be known that there was not enough room for me to move over, nor am I inclined to do that for someone who is tailgating. My standard operating procedure in the event of tailgating is to slow down a little bit. Typically the person tailgating backs off. Not my geriatric driver. Oh no. I think this enraged him more. Well to get to the end of the story once I passed the grouping of vehicles including and an oversize truck I changed lanes. I later passed the mini van driver pulling into Wal-mart. Really did you need to get that bread and milk that desperately? Drivers like you are the ones who cause accidents, you may not be in one yourself but such aggressive driving will surely cause accidents.

New Beginings
This past year (2010) led me to do some deep thinking that has carried over to the beginning of this year. I have been trying to simplify my life, declutter lose weight. all of the above. In my research I have come across many books. One I would like to share with you is Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford. It has many great suggestions in it regarding dietary changes but the one change item that has hit me the hardest is dealing with the emotions. I have heard it said many times It is not what you are eating it is what is eating you. So I have decided to use this blog as a platform to discuss some of the things that have been bothering me and perhaps you too. I hope to work through some of these problems and in doing so, lighten my load. (In more ways than one)
